Proven sea miles
Scimitar 1010 has proven reliability over 100,000s sea miles worldwide. Experienced Skippers continually report exceptional performance in formidable conditions not usually expected from a vessel of Scimitar 1010's size.
In Australia, new cats have left Brisbane in challenging conditions south to Hobart, north to the Great Barrier Reef, The Cape, The Kimberley's, and even from Sydney to the Solomon Islands. Some Scimitar 1010s reside on the east and west coasts of the United States where they regularly endure lengthy ocean passages. Scimitar 1010 has proven its credentials time and time again.
Exceptional fuel economy
Scimitar 1010's hull displays a very efficient laminar flow design. It uses light but exceptionally strong construction methods normally only found in ocean racing yachts. The result is high performance with much lower horsepower requirements than required by other catamarans and monohulls with large planing hulls.
Responsive engine performance
Scimitar 1010's can be fitted with a range of engines. Originally, 100hp Volvo engines were used with a low fuel flow of 17 litres per hour at 15.9 knots. Yanmar engines (125hp) have been the most popular over time, with fuel flows of 22-25 litres per hour at cruising speeds of around 16 - 17 knots. Modern engines are now delivering more power without an increase in weight or size.
Today, customers are tending to option their vessels with higher horsepower engines ranging up to 220hp.
Flexible cruising speeds
Cruising speeds as much as 20 knots are now the norm for Scimitar 1010s, with top speeds of up to 25 knots possible using the latest technology engines.
This benchmark economy and the reserve power of a new generation of engines provides Scimitar 1010 owners with the best of both worlds. They have the ability to run home fast ahead of closing weather or to throttle back to more economical long range cruising.
